Prompt: Death Note, Light/Misa - Misa takes charge in an unexpected way.

Motivation

It was good to be able to remember what she had forgotten, and Misa was pleased that Light remembered as well. She did miss Rem, but that was the price she paid to have Light in her life. A price well worth paying.

So much more made sense now that she remembered Light was Kira. It made her happy, as the person she loved and the person she admired so much were now the same person. She was also happy that he remembered who he was, and would be able to go back to doing what made him happy.

Only, it didn’t seem to make him happy anymore.

Ever since Ryuuzaki-san’s death, Light had been quiet, and even more distant than usual. Misa simply did not understand it. His plan had worked, and now he could continue doing his work without having to worry about being caught. He even had taken on Ryuuzaki-san’s L name, so that he didn’t have to deal with police people annoying him.

She did not understand this...mopey state he was in. He had the Death Note, he had her, he didn’t have to worry about being caught. What else could it be?

She asked him, several times, was brushed off each of them, and she huffed slightly at that. She was still one of his best tools, able to see true names, even if the person tried to hide it. That was something he never had, so she was still someone useful to him. And she loved him. What more could he want? Not to mention the fact that she did whatever he asked, and all he had to do was use her as best he could as he continued to use the Death Note and punish those who needed it.

Actually, now that she thought about it, she hadn’t really seen him go back to using the Death Note. Reports of Kira’s activities had dropped off to people questioning where Kira had gone again. That just wasn’t right. Light was Kira, and he had been so passionate about the good he had caused before. So what had changed?

The only thing she could think of was one particular death.

Finally, she had enough. After a few days of research, she hunted Light down. It was a little harder than before. Between his activities as the new L, and his schooling, and all his other activities that he had to keep up for public appearances, Light was a little hard to track down. But Misa had resources of her own, and found out where he was currently at. Playing L again.

Humming softly, she stopped by a local restaurant that she knew he liked and picked up a few of his favorite dishes. In disguise, of course. She was a household name, now, and if she was going to see Light while he was in L mode, he would not appreciate her drawing attention to herself while she did so. Misa knew he had taken great pains to keep everyone except a few people from knowing he had taken on L’s name. It would have ruined everything. So she traveled in disguise, just like she had when she had first seen him.

So, food collected, and a folder of papers neatly tucked away into her oversized bag, she made her way towards the where Light and a few others were, pretending to track Kira. Well, the others thought he really was tracking Kira, but Misa couldn’t help it if they were so silly.

Getting in was simple enough. She still had the codes, and she was allowed in easily enough. Holding the bag of food, she heading for the main area, knowing for a fact that would be where Light was.

It was odd how much he did remind her of Ryuuzaki-san. From right after they had been released, while she and Light were still unaware that they really were Kira. When Ryuuzaki-san had been unmotivated due to the thought his theory might be wrong. Or at least incomplete. She still remembered the fight, but that wasn’t her way. Besides, how could she hurt her precious Light like that?

She found him alone, bent over a computer, idly poking at the keyboard. Smiling, she moved forward, and draped herself on his back. He jerked away, and she realized just how distant he had been.

“You should pay more attention,” she scolded. “What if I had been Kira, hmm?”

That got a trace of a smile from him, and she was pleased. Standing upright again, she set her bag on the floor, and offered the bag of food to Light. He blinked at it for a moment, and then his stomach seemed to get the idea, because it growled rather hungrily.

“I’ve been told that you aren’t eating so much. Skipping meals. That’s bad for you. Misa’s Light can’t fall over from hunger, so I had to fix that right away.”

As she spoke, she was shedding the larger clothing she wore, her normal type of outfit underneath, and pulled the wig and glasses off, tucking them away into the bag. “So, are you going to be good and eat?”

Light gave his equivalent of an eye roll, but he did start to pull the food from the bag. “The others are at their jobs. What brings you here now of all times, Misa?”

“Food, and this.”

With that, she dug out a folder that contained all her hard work from the last few days, and a few apples, which she tossed into the air. She knew that Ryuk would catch them.

“There’s more if you go away for a while,” she said, pulled a full bag of them out. Well, that seemed to work, she decided, and smirked. Then she handed the folder to Light.

Looking at her curiously, Light took it. Misa smiled slightly. Light rarely saw her take charge mode, as she was usually happy to go along with what he wanted, but this time she was going to push until things were right again. She sat there, watching him as he looked through the papers, eyes widening slightly.

“These are....” he said, pausing as he looked at them again.

“Case reports of various crimes that have been happening while you have been moping,” she told him. “I got the correct names and everything. Misa does not like the fact that Light hasn’t been doing what he does best. Being Kira. You beat Ryuuzaki-kun. Don’t tell me that you are going to let him win after all.”

She could see him pause, hand still on the papers as he -looked- at her.

“That is what I’ve been doing, isn’t it?” he asked slowly, as if realizing it himself. “I’ve been letting him win. He didn’t win, though. -I- did.”

Misa smiled. She could see the realization dawning on him, could see the ideas that made him Kira curling in the back of his eyes.

“I.... Thank you, Misa.” Light leaned forward and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “You really are helpful.”

Smile growing brighter, Misa beamed at him as he looked at the papers again, obviously making plans.

She was useful for Light. For Kira.

That was all she ever wanted.
