“AERIS!”
The frantic, angry yell was almost impossible to recognize, and Aeris’s eyes grew wide when she realized that it was Cloud’s voice she was hearing. Surprised, she bolted from her workroom and ran towards the call. She really didn’t want to see what had him so mad, but she couldn’t ignore the frantic aspect of the yell. Not with what she did.
Skidding to a stop into the kitchen, she stared at the blond, taking a few deep breaths and trying to see what was going on that might make him yell....
Oh, dear.
“What....” she started, only to stop as blue eyes that were glimmering gold glared at her. “Aeris, what did we say about storing -potions- in the fridge? We even bought you one just for your workroom so we wouldn’t have anything like this happen after -last- time.”
She thought maybe now would be a good time to point out she hadn’t put any potions in the fridge, but she was too busy staring at the feathers that were currently in place of Cloud’s hair. Shouldn’t giggle, shouldn’t giggle, but he looked so darn cute with them that she couldn’t help moving closer, hand reaching up to pet.
He caught her arm, fingers curling delicately around her wrist, and she realized that it wasn’t just because of his enhanced strength. His fingertips were now bearing a set of talons that looks fully functional. “You know the dragons blood makes us react oddly to spells, Aeris. What did I just drink?”
A moment of fidgetting, and Aeris shuffled a bit. “I don’t know,” she admitted finally. “I really don’t. I haven’t stored any potions in the fridge since the situation last time. But don’t you worry,” she said when Cloud’s eyes went wide. “I’m sure we’ll fix this right up. It’s just a matter of seeing what you drank. And why were you drinking strange drinks, anyway?”
“It was in my bottle. And it smelled fruity. Zack and I....” He paused, his own eyes going wide. “Oh, fuck.”
“Cloud?” Oh, this didn’t sound good.
“Zack’s had the same thing. And he....”
“Is kinda curious on why he has a tail.”
Zack’s voice startled both of them, and Aeris couldn’t help but squeak when she saw the long, slender ears that rose up from the mass of Zack’s hair. He looked like he had blunter claws than Cloud’s talons, and she wondered what tail he was talking about
Did he have a tail to match those bunny ears?
And now that Cloud had turned to face Zack, she squeaked again. Oooh, more feathers. No wonder Cloud was unhappy. He got enough bird jokes with his hair like it used to be.
But...feathers! And bunny ears.
Shaking herself, and forcing the grin down, Aeris looked at them closely. “I don’t know what is going on,” she said finally. “Or why you two have such adorable extras, but it’s not something I did. I learned after last time. And since Cloud’s gotten dragon’s blood since then, I’ve been extra careful.” She thought about it some, and collected Cloud’s hand, and moving to get Zack.
“Come on, let’s go down to my workshop. Grab the drinks, and we’ll see if we can’t figure out what is going on.”
///
“Well, I’m pretty sure it isn’t a malicious spell. It’s just not strong enough for it,” she said finally, after doing several tests on both of them. It was kinda fun to watch them while she had been. Cloud’s feather-hair kept fluffing up and flattening down, just like a bird’s crest, and Zack’s ears didn’t seem capable of staying still, though he seemed to want to pin them down a great deal. Aeris could see his fingers twitch every now and then when the ears moved suddenly. She had gotten a look at his tail, and it was a fluffy a tail as she had ever seen. Between Cloud’s wings and that little fluffy tail, she wanted to pet them very, very much.
Collecting the bottle of liquid that was Cloud’s personal drink, she sniffed it. Whoever had done this had to know them. It was as simple as that. Under the smell of fruit, she got the shimmer-scent of a feather. Probably mixed in to help guide the spell. Which sometimes didn’t work with dragon-blooded, but it seemed to in this case. Which was an indication that whoever did it worked a lot of spells around people who could mess up spells with their very presences.
“Cloud, yours had a feather in it.” A second sniff. “ And I can smell fur based magic in yours, Zack. Plus, they are in your specific bottles, and whoever did this knew whose was whose.” Another sniff. “They aren’t mean to be long termed. Nothing in here is meant to last for more than a few days.”
“We’ve been pranked,” Zack said finally. “And I’m going to kick Seph’s ass when I catch him. This is right up his alley, too. Bastard.”
Cloud eyed his lover. “Zack, what did you do?”
As the pair started to argue back and forth over whose fault it might be, and what Zack might have done to possibly make Sephiroth want to prank them in the first place, Aeris just shook her head and smiled. She could see easily enough that Zack was now far more pleased than unhappy. He had been trying for years to get Sephiroth to relax and understand that they could tease each other.
Seems the man had taken the lesson well.
Curious now, she went upstairs and collected one last bottle. This one was hers. Between her spell casting, and the fact Cloud and Zack had taken blood from two different varieties of dragons, they all had different needs that these drinks helped take care of. And if the boys drinks had been laced....
Her’s had the same smell of fur that Zack’s did, and she wondered what it might do.
Well, only one way to find out.
Grinning, she took a drink and waited.
Downstairs, the guys were still debating when she pounced them, her long, thin tail curling easily behind her. Ears perking up, she grinned at them.
“Ima kitty!” she cheered, and decided to indulge in her petting urges.
Oh, their squeaks were priceless.

There was a very old fic way back when in which Seph got sick and tired of Cloud's hairstyle and drove him in for a professional styling job. The stylist couldn't get his hair to stay down and when she looked closer, it turned out he had quills! It was a nightmare/wakeup scenario but it had me rolling for days. Yeah, Cloud with feathers, not a happy kind of guy.
