Boys
They were such boys at times.
Carrying a tray that had a set of glasses on it and a pitcher of water, Tifa moved to look into the shed that was behind the newest incarnation of Seventh Heaven. She could hear the low mummer of voices, so she knew the pair were still in there, and she opened the door, just a little, to look inside.
If she told anyone what she had ever seen, she was positive that she would have been laughed at. And probably checked for fever. Well, if she had told anyone besides the group who had helped with Sephiroth. They would have remembered how Reeve had built Cait Sith, and the fact that the man was toy nuts.
And Cloud, well, Cloud was Cloud, and she knew he was fascinated with shiny things that had a lot of power. It explained his materia collection, which was carefully hidden from Yuffie.
Still, anyone else would never have believed her if she told them that the person currently in charge of most of the world, and the man who had killed Sephiroth himself enjoyed getting down and dirty together.
Currently, each of them stripped to a pair of ratty pair of jean and a what used to be clean strap shirts, Cloud and Reeve were twisted around each other, and Tifa almost winced trying to imagine how that position could strain muscles. Neither seemed to notice her, so she took a moment to admire the view.
“Give me the wrench. It’s just out of my range.”
Following Reeve’s order, Cloud twisted a bit more and stretched, fingertips just brushing the requested tool. Tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth, he put a little more effort into it and caught the wrench, pulling it into range. “Here,” he said, handing it over, the other hand still holding some part or another as Reeve worked on something Tifa couldn’t see.
The pair were currently building Cloud a bike, one that he could ride for the delivery service he was contemplating, and one to hold the sword he was working on designing. They didn’t get to do it often, as Reeve was busy helping rebuilding Midgar and setting up what he could on a more global level, and Cloud was doing what he could around Edge. But when they could both sneak away from their duties, Tifa could count on finding them here, covered in grease and grime, and acting like a couple of kids with a shiny new toy.
It was far too cute, and she still needed to take pictures, but, for now, she’d let them have their fun.
“Hey guys,” she said, moving into their view finally, though she figured Cloud had known she was there the whole time. “I brought you guys stuff to drink. Let me know when you get hungry and I’ll make some sandwiches.”
There was a pleased sound from Reeve, who was mostly hidden under the bike, and Cloud gave her a bright smile from where he was twisted over the seat so he could hold the part steady for Reeve. That smile made Tifa’s chest tighten, and she smiled back. “Thanks, Tifa.”
That smile made everything worth it. It was good to see her friends relax like this, and Tifa was more than willing to let them take over her storage space if this was the reward she got.
Of course, when they came in, dripping wet from where they had rinsed off with the hose outside, well, that was a whole different type of reward, and she enjoyed it just as much.

Though if I were Tifa and I had men like that hanging around wet and/or half naked, I'd put up cameras everywhere. *leer*

This is just lovely. And I'm not just talking about the mental image produced, although I don't blame Tifa at all for enjoying the view! I can totally imagine the two of them geeking out over the bike. Sweet. :)

And, yeah, little kids in my head. Someone else has me wanting to write one where Cid joins in on the geeking out. Cause he so would.
