Curious
The most dangerous thing, it seemed, was when they first stepped into a situation. Any situation. Be it entering a building while on a job or going to the opening session of court for the year. Which Zack still hated to do with a passion.
Over the years, Cloud had learned that Zack, no matter how much training he had, simply did not do Court well. He loved the child dearly, but Zack was just not made for the dance that was society’s highest. In a place where strong emotions were frowned upon and and the ability to be still no matter what happened around them was the most desired quality for people to have, Zack stood out.
Oh, Cloud knew the boy didn’t mean to. He had never meant to. But Zack was simply Zack, and even after so many years of knowing him, Cloud was well aware of the fact that while Zack was many things, passionless was not one of them.
He had fielded many complaints over the years, how his heir apparent had started this fight, or had caused a situation to get that girl in trouble, even if he never touched her himself, he had given the one who had ideas. Never mind that all of the children were young and flighty at times. Of course, Cloud thought of most people he dealt with as young and flighty, but that wasn’t the point. The point was, while Zack himself never really caused much of the trouble, him simply being there seemed to encourage others to get into trouble on their own.
Cloud really wasn’t sure if there was anything to it or not. Zack wasn’t human, he knew that well enough. He did things that anything purely human simply couldn’t. However, he wondered at times just what it was Zack’s background was mixed with. The boy did seem to have an almost uncanny ability to be in the center of situations that came out of nowhere and boiled into a frenzy. At times, he wondered if Chaos, the god, not his packmate, hadn’t wandered through and tossed a blessing or seed into Zack’s line. It made so much sense sometimes.
If that was the case, a lot more things made sense around Zack. Cloud didn’t know, though, and so he just accepted that Zack was a dangerous intersection of forces at times, and that he should always be wary when going into new places.
Life with Zack was interesting, but just because he was immortal didn’t mean Cloud liked it when hanging around his adopted son ended up with either of them bleeding.

The hardest thing to do, for Zack at least, is to give in.
It had never been part of his character to do it. Ever since he could remember, when people shoved it, he had shoved back. Part of the reason he avoided Court, given the chance. Cloud was powerful and had a lot of connections, and as his so called “heir”, even if the man would never need one, Zack had a lot of pull as well. However, there were other families who had just as much pull, and it seemed to him that most of the kids from those families were brats. Adults, too.
So Zack stayed away from Court quite happily. He had never really enjoyed it anyway, and the few real friends he made had been happy to come visit him where he lived.
There were some things that Zack found he had to give way on. Most of them irritated him, and he did his best to find ways around them. Sometimes he tried to get revenge, others, he simply got around them and went on his way. That applied to most things. People, places, rules. Few things kept Zack from doing just what he wanted to do.
Sometimes, even through he hated it normally, Zack did yield. Usually when he had one of the twins on him, their teeth on his throat, and doing that damn purr of theirs. That purr always sent shivers up his spine, and he found that, when this happened, he didn’t mind letting them have their way.
The hardest thing for Zack to do was to give up. Sometimes, though, he did enjoy it.

Split Second
It’s that moment he loves the most.
That moment, right when everything seems to pause, to stop around him. Where everything he has is going so fast that everything around him seems to slow down.
It happens in every fight, in every hunt. It’s part of why he does so love his job, and is happy that he can do this so often.
Zack isn’t sure what it is, if it’s something from his genetics or if it’s simply him. Cloud seems to think the latter, and Zack is fine with that. He doesn’t really care where it comes from, he just knows that it is part of him, and he never wants it to stop.
He knows that if he stops feeling it, then everything else is stopping as well, and that is dying.
And Zack doesn’t like the idea of that.

Dead End
Dead end.
Never a good thing.
He spins, looking at the thing chasing him.
No rescue this time. The others, they have their own problems.
He hates it when things go south like this. Pear shape and splattered all over the place.
He’s hurt, can feel the blood sliding down his back, and the burn that says that those claws were laced with something.
Aeris is going to kick his ass next time she sees him.
He hopes it’s not for a long, long time.
Sword is gone, and he can’t feel his hand. He might be missing fingers. He might not.
Turning, he faces the thing oozing down the hall. Sword wouldn’t do him any good anyway, and he’s trapped.
Dead end.
