A/N: Set ten years later. Yeah, one of those fics. Blame the two listed above. Their fault.
Drinks On Me
“You know, it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. Not really.”
Settling on the ground, cups and bottle with him, he sighed, looked out over the land. “Ten years. Don’t know how much you guys have been watching, not really. Figure you’re a bit distracted with other things, and I swear, if Aeris somehow found ways to show that damned dress….”
A sigh. “Should have been there for that. But you were in a way, weren’t you. Felt like you were, know I heard you more than once. Just can’t bear to miss the excitement, could you?
Edge is doing well. I know, how could it not, with Reeve watching over it. We keep having situations, but we’re doing okay. I think the biggest was when Denzel asked Marlene out. Thought Barret was going to lose it for sure. Tifa just shoved Jasen at him, who is her and Rude’s little boy. Yuffie’s bonded with Shelke, which seems to make Vincent a bit…unnerved. Not that you can tell unless you know him pretty well and are watching him, but it’s there. Cid’s doing good with Sherra. The rest have been doing good as well.
It’s odd. Life has gone on and I realize that…it’s nice. No disasters, no situations that might end with the world ending. Just…calm. Well, kinda calm.
Wish you could have been here for it, Zack, Aeris. You guys would have loved it.”
Filling the cups, he poured two of them into the dirt by the Buster Sword, and drank the third himself. Then he smashed all four of the fragile porcelain things and let the drink and the fragments scatter on the earth.
“Be seeing you guys.”
Smiling softly, he rose and moved to his bike. There was a big dinner tonight, since everyone was in town. Be good to see everyone and the kids. Been too long since he had.
Life had gone on. He had finally learn, after far too many years, to honor those who are gone, but to remember he was still alive. He’d see the others soon enough. Time to be with the ones who were still here now.
