Because I'm a bit slow, and everyone else did it.
*snickers* Yah, okay, it's a sucky prize, but it's a prize. Request a ficlet, you guys who are the top ten commenters. I'm going to try to write comment-fitting ficlets for you. You should know what fandoms I write in, so request away. *grins*

hmmm, to give you a break from epiclike ideas...
Kimbley and Izumi-dropping promises
::smirks and sees how you react::

He remembers during the war, how that bastard Kimbley promised to be there in the morning. They had both had too much to drink, and were so tired of being tired, and one of them had made the first move. It had ended up with them in bed, and Kimbley had promised to be there in the morning.
He lied.
After the war, soul weary and stained by far too much death, he went to his sister's home. She held him, Seig in the corner watching, held him and promised she'd help make the shadows go away. That she would help him heal. But he didn't heal, and he realized that he never would, so he just learned to hide it. So even his sister wasn't able to keep her promise.
So he does not make promises. If he says the word, he had already done it. He makes deals, and only promises what he has already set up.
When Fullmetal comes to him, he notices that the boy only has one thing in his eyes.
The blond has made a promise. And through hell and high water, he will keep it.
Roy finds himself admiring that.

... your prompt is, a fic that's purely Seph/Aerith, no other characters allowed in the relationship with the two of them. ^.^;;;

When Zack had realized he was going to be forced to pick either his girlfriend or his boyfriend, Aeris had lost out. It had hurt her deeply, though she still sent gifts of real food and amusing gossip. And if there was one thing that Sephiroth had learned after so much Zack exposure, it was to be polite and respond to people when they made the effort.
So he had made his way down to her home one day to say thank you. He had forgotten what it was like to talk to someone and have their complete attention. Zack tried, but he and Strife had that fairly new relationship, so it was hard sometimes.
The first day she had sighed and laid her head against his arm, he had almost ran. Instead, he had tried to relax, and discovered that it wasn't horrible. In fact, he rather enjoyed it. The smell of flowers, soil, and life seemed to cling to her, drifting up from her hair.
One thing had lead to another, and one day Zack was teasing him about going out with the girl.
Sephiroth had been forced to take a step back and look at the situation.
He then told her that he might possibly have feelings for her.
Nibelheim happened after that.
She would not be happy in the world he was going to create. He did not want her to be unhappy.
He still enjoyed the smell of her hair. Flowers, earth, and blood.

They were lies, hot and thick as ashes in his mouth.
These touches, they were not for him. Not really. They were for the one that the others wished he could be. Their hero, their strong one, the one that they could leave alone again.
The touches burned him, brought about by his own despair and attempted escape. Burned him, but bound him at the same time.
He was not strong, he couldn't stand against the ties they looped on him, once at a time.
Ed no longer had that strength they had known him for. In body or character. It had been shattered.
He couldn't resist them, though. The four people he cared for more. He simply couldn't.
He was too weak for that.
So he took the false love and tried to pretend that it was real.
