“Wow!”
Sanzo looked around at Goku’s exclamation, his expression bored. “It’s the biggest festival in the area. If you wander off, you’ll get lost.” As the words left his mouth, the blond’s hand snapped out and grabbed Goku’s hair. “And don’t wander off when I just finished saying it!”
Ignoring both the snarl and the tug on his hair, Goku watched with wide eyes as everything seemed to happen at once. “Look, Sanzo, what’s that? Oh, wait, did you see that guy? I didn’t know anyone could do that! Hey! That lady just... mmprh”
Hand covering the boy’s mouth, Sanzo looked around for something that would make Goku be quiet for a few minutes. As the highest ranking priest in the area, it had been his “duty” to bless the festival. And he just wasn’t able to say no when Goku had begged to look around. So now he was stuck with a loud mouth monkey who didn’t know that it wasn’t polite to point.
Then he spotted it.
Dragging Goku along, Sanzo stalked through the crowd, absently thankful that most people recognized him enough to clear his path.
His mouth finally free, Goku was quick to ask a question. “San~zo, where are we going?”
“Here.”
With that, Goku found himself standing in front of a food stand, with three stylized chickens on it, and the best smells coming from inside. It took a moment for him to speak. “Wha... is this place? It smells really good!”
“It’s called the Three French Hens. Don’t ask me why. Just get in there. I’ve heard they have decent food, and specialize in different bird dishes.”
Sanzo didn’t have to tell Goku twice. With a cheer, Goku charged into the tent. Slower, and with a great deal more dignity, Sanzo followed.
Here was how he killed two birds with one stone. Keep the monkey occupied and fed. Now, as long as everyone kept away, maybe Sanzo might actually enjoy his day.
