I have no idea where this came from. It looks as if it fits into the LG arc of HoS, but it would be an AU of that.... *grumbles to herself* But I want to put it down and see what others think of it. If you happen to read this, let me know.
This takes place inside the Gate, after Ed, Roy, and Masuta somehow make their way inside of it, and the shelter around Riza and Al is gone. Don't ask how, all I know is this is where my brain conspired with the bunnies to stick them.
The things curled around Riza and Al, and Roy saw that there were more heading for them.
"No."
A simple, softly spoken word. One that seemed to make everything freeze. Roy fought the urge to do so, turned enough to see the source of the word.
Ed stood there, teeth bared, eyes glowing a bright gold. Literally glowing. Shivers of unease crawled down Roy's spine as he saw the look on his young lovers face. Ed did intense quite well, it was an accepted fact of his personality. But not this crazed intensity. An almost fey look.
Roy knew that Ed had been willing to die to save Al before, and that the other man had lucked out by ending up in a different world instead. To know that that type of devotion had been spread to the rest of his lovers was also easy to see if one watched Ed's reactions around the other four.
To know it was one thing. To see it was something else.
It was no longer Ed's eyes that were glowing. The light that seemed to spill from him was spreading, flowing over his skin and hair like something liquid. Sleek and shimmering. Roy was forced to blink. He didn't know where the power was coming from, but he did vaugely recall something Ross had reported. Something to do with Ed glowing like a small sun.
And whatever he was doing, it seemed to call the things that were in the dark. They abandoned Riza and Al, and were swarming their way towards Ed.
"You thought you could take them," Ed hissed, eyes narrowed pools of golden light, hair whipping around his face from a wind no one else could feel. "You thought you could buried them in the dark, like you tried to bury me. That you could make them as lost as you. To take their screams as swallow them as you laughed and laughed and pulled away everything. To bury them in the darkness until they don't remember the light or that they were anything besides nothing."
The words held a ring of personal experience. Roy felt a cold knot form in his stomach. He wanted to look at the others, to see what their reactions were, but he couldn't take his eyes off Ed. Not this glowing, wild eyed creature that had formed itself from his lover.
Teeth were bared in a smile, looking far sharper than Roy ever remembered. With a snarl/laugh, Ed brought his hands together. "You won't bury any of them. You won't touch any of them. I'll burn you away, burn away your cold hands and icy eyes."
Roy felt that cold knot grow. This was wrong. Very, very wrong.
Then the darkness swarmed Ed and everything went dim, as if the sun had set and only the moon remained.
And that's all I have, but it is driving me nuts. Make the bunnies go away, everyone. *goes off to whine some more*

If that is what alows for the increase in alchemic power, and the light is infact what draws a soulless creature like the gate dwellers, perhaps it is the key to their destraction as well, they are essentially lacking in a 'soul' and therefore have no understanding of it's inner workings, they would immeadiatly work to consume the flesh and physicallity of the source, seeking in doing so to consume the soul and it's energy...
but that would strip away the bindings that hold the soul in place and limit the alchemy discharge to survivable levels. By distroying the body they would release the soul and allow it to use it's full alchemic potential without the threat of damage to the physical shell, providing a breif moment in time when so much power is available as to destroy practically anything imaginable...
but after that moment the soul would be free of all bindings and thus move on to another housing or plane of existance, and it would only work if the body and soul were in harmony as to the desired goal/effect of the turbo boost in energy, AND if they were both in such a plane of existance where by physical manifestation of spiritual power could infact harm such a creature that possesses a physical if epherial body but lacks a soul or spiritual power of it's own.
Sorry, you got me off on a tangent and a bunny amy have been bred from this, it's just how my mind works...
