This is what happens when Katrina reads a book of stories based of the Sandman comic series, and is thinking about Alter!Series.
Yes, it is an Alter!Series drabble, but not the next Gate one, and really does belong in the Annex section of the series if canonized.
Dreams
Al would sometimes dream.
Strange dreams, they were, too. Dreams that tasted of reality, and, more often than not, have Al awakening in tears.
Dreams of a man with a ready smile and sharp green-gold eyes. The man was warm, and Al normally woke from those dreams with a smile of his own.
Sometimes, though, the man was covered in blood, and a woman and a tiny girl cried. Those dreams made Al wake up with damp cheeks.
Another little girl, one of happiness and an ever present dog, ran through his dreams on occasion. But those dreams were never happy. The first time he had dreamed of the girl, and of the creature that had been made of her, Al had woken the entire house by screaming.
Those dreams were ones that he normally would forget quickly. They were a part of him, but under the bright light of day, he would forget them until they returned some other night.
Then there was the other type of dream. The dream of a slim figure in a red jacket. Of long hair tied back into a golden braid. A smile that was sharp enough to cut sometimes.
Those dreams stayed with Al. They were his special dreams. Dreams that kept his hope alive.
One day he was going to see the familiar symbol on the back of the never seen jacket. One day, he would find out how much that hair had grown, and if the smile was still as sharp.
He would see his brother again, one day.
Al dreamed of that day as well, and couldn’t wait to see if reality matched it.
And I want to wish everyone happy holidays and may your days be full of nothing but good dreams.
