Wow, two in one night. These only take about twenty minutes to write, but I'm still proud of my babies. This one is for [livejournal.com profile] illianaka, who requested an Outlaw Star with Gene/Jim, and the line "Put down the wrench and back away from the coffee machine."

This isn't the first time I've written OLS, nor is it the first time I've written Jim/Gene stuff. Of course, it's the firs time I've aged the boys, but it's actually part of a story idea I had a while back. Not that I don't have an OLS in progress now that I really should work on. That one, though, is Fred/Gene. Haven't updated that in a while. *sweatdrops* Maybe I should. *shrugs* Oh, well. Anyway, here's the drabble.

The muttering of curses let Gene know that Jim was awake.

It had been a long few days, and everyone had just collapsed on their return to Sentinel 3. Not surprisingly, Gene was one of the last to wake up. The surprise was that Jim had been the one to sleep later than the redhead.

Well, maybe not that surprising. The actually owners of the business had put in a lot of time and hard work on their last job, a job that Gene was actively trying to erase from his memory. He didn’t mind having women hit on him, but that one had been kinda scary.

When Gene had woken up this morning, it had been to a note left from the others letting him know they had gone out to restock supplies. It wasn’t too hard to read between the lines and see that they had also left to get some “Gene-free” time.

Leaving Jim asleep in their bed, Gene had searched the kitchen, only to realize that the others were right. There was nothing to eat. Period. Not even dried stuff. Hell, they were even out of coffee.

That had led him on a hunt for breakfast, well, lunch. He had been gone for about twenty minutes before returning home, takeout in his hands.

That’s when he heard the cursing. For a moment, he couldn’t figure out why Jim was threatening the continuing existence of the coffee machine. The younger man loved that thing more than he loved Gene, so why would he….

Oh. No coffee.

That also explained the scene when Gene strolled into the kitchen.

“Shit! Put down the wrench and back away slowly from the coffee machine.”

Bleary eyes glared at Gene. “It won’t give me coffee. It must die!”

Over the last few years, Jim had become addicted to coffee, and Gene knew it. That’s why the possession in his left hand was so important for the continued safety of everyone.

“I got you some coffee,” he teased, gently waving the cup carrier in front of Jim’s face. In response to that, the blond dropped the rather large wrench he had been holding and reached for the coffee. Gene let him have it, not wanting to lose a limb. Besides, it was rather cute to see Jim chug the coffee, with his hair all straggly around his face.

A few moments later, Jim was able to once again communicate in human terms. “Mmm. Thank you.” He smiled sweetly at Gene, who snorted and passed over some food.

“I knew I’d better get you some, or there would be death and mayhem in the streets.” Now Gene smirked. “Not that there won’t be next week.”

“Next week…?” Jim’s eyes grew large. “Gene, what the hell do you have planned?”

“Nothing bad. But it’s not everyday you turn 18.”

Something in Gene’s expression make Jim worry. “Gene, seriously, what’s going through that pea brain of yours? Gene? Ge-ne?”

Gene ate his breakfast with a smile.

*laughs* I love writing Gene and Jim. The interaction is always fun. Hope you like.

*grumbles* I'll try this again. For some reason, I can't get it to accept the link to the drabble community. *pouts*

Yep. Snarky humor is the best. Though in RL, I tend to have a more perverse sense of humor. Still fun.

Yes, it is very Homura-Sanzo like. It also reminds me of Shigure and Hatori. Not sure why.

*pets Shigure* Run in fear, pup. You're my favorite, and that's rarely a safe place to be. *grins*

Yep, drabbles are fun. Just make a request when you get time, and we can trade again. If you want, go ahead and make a request. Though I really should work on Memories and Sacrifices. And maybe the Seiten Taisen/Demon!Sanzo fic, before Iapetus-chan finds out where I live and comes after me. *Grins* But I like requests. There is a drabble community, but you'll have to go farther down the journal to get the link.

Am glad you enjoyed this.
