Shooting Star
The attack was unexpected, and the lookouts had only been able to give a few moments of warning before the explosions started. Fireworks ripped through the sky, causing disorienting flashes of light as the guerillas hit the camp.
A few moments wasn't much time, but it let Sephiroth get his blade and his coat on.
"Stay," he told Cloud. Not waiting to see the boy's reaction, he bolted into camp.
All around him, there was fighting. To an outsider, it would have been chaotic, but Sephiroth had trained his men and trained them well, and it was a fight that was still in their favor, middle of the night or not. The intruders were being kept away from vital areas, and herded to where it would be easier to fight.
Most of them.
It didn't take long for Sephiroth to find himself a target, but he was skilled at dealing with multiple opponents, and even in the flashing light and noise, it wasn't hard to deal with those who had thought to take him on.
As fast as they had attacked, the invaders melted away, and Sephiroth sighed. Now for the part he hated most. Dealing with reports, and going back to a tent where a displeased Cloud would be waiting.
He wasn't sure which one he wanted to avoid more.

Making Dinner
Sephiroth had a meeting with some of his commanders, and Cloud had been temporarily banished from the tent during the course of it. So he had taken himself down to the mess tent to have a bit of people watching.
Most of the guys here he had known since he had gotten here, but not all. Some of the ones he had known had died, and there were always knew transfers. Most of them never seemed to know how to act around him at first. Didn't know why, but he just ignored it until they seemed to figure it out and he could react accordingly.
Right now, he tucked himself into a corner and just watched them. It was always neat to see how people interacted with one another. Some got along with everyone, others just kept to themselves. Groups formed, and it was easy to see who drew those to them, who were the leaders of the groups and why they were in charge. Some did it through charisma, others through fear, and when those various groups interacted with each other, it was neat to watch how they responded to each other.
Cloud watched it, starting to pick up details here and there as the people collected their food, talked, ate, and left. He'd tell Sephiroth about it later, and was slowly learning what it was that interested the older boy the most from what Cloud noticed. Sephiroth said it helped him decide who was assigned where.
Cloud liked to help Sephiroth like that, so he did his best to notice things about people so he could tell his friend.

He didn't know what they were doing, but Cloud was as silent as he could be as he watched as two of the SOLDIERs fumbled at each others clothing. The blond had been taking a walk around the edge of camp, bored and waiting for Sephiroth to return from a patrol when he had heard a noise, and came across the pair.
They had been distracted, which he knew Sephiroth always seemed to be muttering about getting people killed, otherwise Cloud knew they would have noticed him. Normally, he would have said something, because he didn't want his friends being killed, or left, but they had reminded him of his parents, in a way. They had been kissing, and he hadn't seen anyone do that in a long time.
So he stayed, curious.
There was a lot of touching, and finally one of them opening the pants of another and sliding down to rest on his knees. Cloud couldn't see -quite- what he was doing, but it seemed to involve putting his face really close to the other's pants. The other seemed to like it. Cloud thought he might, anyway. He was making sounds, and didn't seem like he was hurting, so it must have been because he liked it.
Cloud didn't get it.
But he wasn't going to ask. Instead, he just watched, trying to figure it out.
He still hadn't figured it out by the time he'd had to go, but maybe he could ask some of the others and they'd explain it for him.
Curious, he headed for the mess tent, where there'd be people to ask.

Mortality
Bored. Bored, bored, bored.
One day, Cloud was going to convince Sephiroth that it would be okay for him to go on patrol with the man, but it hadn't worked today either, so he was left behind in camp.
He already -knew- what camp was like, though, and he'd been banned from the infirmary for the time being. Doc had gotten tired of him asking questions.
There had been a bit of excitement last night when the late patrol had brought in a few prisoners, but Cloud hadn't been able to get too close. So he wandered around, seeing where they had ended up.
It was the muffled sound of pain that drew his attention. Moving towards a building, an actual building, not a tent, he listened carefully. Nobody had ever been in there before. Was that where the people were being kept? Moving closer, he cracked open the door.
The room smelled funny, and the boy's eyes went wide as he realized that there was blood all over the place.
At least...that was how it seemed.
For a moment, everything seemed very off, and he wondered if this was some sort of attack.
Then he recognized the man holding a blade, and that the other man on the table was someone from Wutai. And he liked Breels.
Quietly, he slipped in and found a place to perch. As he did, Breels looked at him. For a long moment, the pair studied each other. Then the older nodded. "You can stay if you want."
And Cloud wanted.
Fascinated, he watched as Breels did things to the man to make him tell the SOLDIER everything he wanted to know.
Cloud wasn't bored anymore.

Hayes chuckled as he saw Cloud's face get a very exasperated look when yet another of the greenies slid up to him and asked where something was in camp. The fact that a kid who was maybe half the greenie's height giving the new one directions just made the image that much better. And the fact he had laughed hadn't gone unnoticed.
After the new one left, Cloud stalked over to Hayes. Kid was already mimicking Sephiroth's glare, and now it seemed he was picking up his way of stalking. It was adorable, not that he let that show as Cloud did that glare at him. "It's not funny!"
"From here it is," Hayes told him. "What got that look from you this time?"
The boy huffed. "They always come to ask me stupid questions. All the time. Just because I'm little." He glared even harder at Hayes as the man cracked up. "S'not funny!"
That just made Hayes laugh even harder. And he couldn't stop, not even when a boot collided with his shin, followed by a shove, and he went down with a yelp. All he did was curl up and start to laugh harder.
Oh, yes, this was going to be worth hours of snickers later.
