Just a few examples of tropes that apply to FFVII and Crisis Core: --Heroic BSOD (aka the Hero's Blue Screen of Death) (Cloud's mental breakdown) --Jumped at the Call (Zack's no reluctant hero) --Missed the Call (Zack, but this one made me sniffle a little) --BFS (Big F---ing Swords, in abundance) --Not Compensating For Anything (the use of swords) --Ominous Latin Chanting

I have to admit, that one had me giggling. Particularly at rules 20 (Just Nod Your Head and Smile), 63 (Principle of Narrative Efficiency), 73 (Last Law of Travel), 74 (If You Meet Buddha...), 87 (Supply and Demand Axiom), and 156 (Sephiroth Memorial Escape Clause). I'm working my way through Dragon Quest VIII (Quest of the Cursed King) and yeah, it's hitting every one of these right on schedule, as well as giving most of the features of the standard "Tour" from the Tough Guide to Fantasyland. One of these days, someone is going to cater to cynical types like myself, and produce an RPG which is genre-aware and cracks fun at all the various cliches.
Have you ever planned any of the Shadow Hearts games? They have some very funny WTH elements (in a good way). A vampire pro wrestler, a secret clan of Brazilian ninjas, etc.
I haven't played it myself, but I've heard that "The Bard's Tale" is supposed to be very good with the cynical and the snark. ^_^
*chuckles* Someone else on my flist is playing DQ Swords. Maybe I'll have to pick up one of those games eventually. Need to work on my FF and KH first, plus DMC. *coughs*
