I have a Genesis jacket.

It wasn't really anything I was -looking- for, honestly. But we were at the good will, and [insanejournal.com profile] skeren spotted it. She tried it on, too small in the shoulders. Then she made me try it on.

It's a tight fit, but it fits. Barely.

So, somehow, I ended up with it. And have been informed I'm going to cosplay Genesis at some point.

I'm frightened, as I'm already trying to work out how to do the nice glowing sword.

Help?

*will provide pictures of said jacket later*

Are you feckin' kidding me?? That fairly well just rocks!

I can't wait for pictures and will hold you to it.

Wish I could help you on the sword thing - though I suppose in a pinch a lightsaber toy with some padding around it to mold for shape might work.

I actually have some pictures of a Yazoo cosplayer who made a gun out of wood and eating utensils! It was cool.

If you want to see (really picture intesive) there is one picture toward the bottom here: http://yohjideranged.insanejournal.com/212283.html#cutid1

And another couple here that show the gun really good - (we called it "Yazoo's booty shot" and it is up near the top. http://yohjideranged.insanejournal.com/213394.html#cutid1

And these pictures are just worth looking at because Tifa basically jumps Yazoo: http://yohjideranged.insanejournal.com/212748.html#cutid1 It's crack.

Oh and - [insanejournal.com profile] guiltyred as Melvin the 4th Remnant - http://yohjideranged.insanejournal.com/213189.html#cutid1

Anyway, they may give you some ideas.

(Psst! This seems to have been double-posted with an extra sentence.)

Unfortunately, the only thing I can think about for a glowy sword would be LED lights. They're rather abused by the steampunk crowd...

Cosplaying Final Fantasy is an addiction. A happy, enjoyable, doesn't really hurt anything addiction, but an addiction none the less.

Rock on. ^_^

So... I just gleed. Then was horribly jealous. A genesis jacket?? At goodwill??

Also, I just came back from vacation, so sorry in the lateness of my reply. About the glowy sword?? I think I can help. Wonderful, miraculous things can be done with EL Wire (and, if you're careful, electrical reflective tape too). I can find all my links on how to rig the stuff up, if you're interested. I saw someone do an AMAZING Nero costume once with the stuff. Needless to say, it was awesome.

*grins* I still need to post pics of it. And while it's not quite perfect, it's pretty close.

And, ooh, links! I'll take those. If nothing else, my friend can use them for his steampunk stuff.

WOO! Took me awhile. First, the links how to GET EL wire:

http://www.vibelights.com/ - If I remember right, they have tutorials and stuff on this site too. Lots of choices.

http://www.elwire.com/order/index.html - For really large bulk orders (you shouldn't need QUITE this much, but I figured I'd tack it on, just in case).

Now, EL wire is fabulous, as it's flexible and can be altered to different lengths and easily concealable battery packs... also the stuff lasts practically forever, as long as you charge/change the battery.

I have a few links that may be of your interest in the whole setting up of it, the first of which that came to mind was this forum post on cosplay.com, from the time someone did Heartless!Sora with glowing eyes (which actually has links to a few more sites where glowy sheet/wire stuff can be bought). They do a very detailed description of exactly what they did and I feel like this is one of the better resources I can pass your way.

Next up is someone who has done the most fantastic Nero costume I have ever had the pleasure of seeing (you MAY actually have to get a cosplay.com account to see the images on the site, unlike the forum posts which are viewable to anyone). They said they used "EL tape," which isn't something I'm as well versed in but I'm sure a poke around the internet will find you a site or two where you can buy it and how to rig it up.

The link that send you to the Nero costume links to the gallery but a few of my favs have to be:

ASJGSAK wings
EL tape at work. Fabu.
"I have more angst than 50 emo kids on myspace."
The rig up - how Nero was powered (also has an explanation of how it all worked and the name brand that she used).

I thought that maybe [insanejournal.com profile] proplady had done a project with EL, but apparently I was wrong. Regardless, I probably could find you a few more links if you'd like but I hope this sets up up in the right direction. As for my own PERSONAL experience, I haven't quite gotten to use the stuff yet myself been working veeeery slowly on a Chaos costume but I basically tapped into the the links I've been accumulating over the months so I know what the hell I'm doing when I actually GET to that point.

Good luck!! Hope this helps!!
