Fighting

They never had that glow of easy relationship that a lot of people did.

No, Cloud remembered it very clearly. There was a lot of fighting. A lot.

Cid and Rufus Did Not get along. They squabbled constantly. Cloud and Vincent tended to ignore the fights, choosing to not get involved with them when the two men did fight as long as it stayed verbal. After catching a book upside the back of the head because he wasn’t paying attention, Cloud always stepped in when it looked like it was going to move past words.

Cloud and Vincent got their share of being chewed out by Cid and Rufus when they would go quiet. It got a little irritating to constantly be told to “stop brooding” when the pair simply wanted to have a little quiet time. The only time Cloud ever heard Vincent raise his voice was at Cid after being pestered a little too long over being quiet. Cid didn’t do it again after Vincent broke the railing of the ship, human hand twisting it easily until it snapped.

Cloud simply tended to walk off. Once, while they had been flying, when they weren’t more than a hundred feet or so off the ground, he had simply jumped overboard and walked to civilization. That had lead to an even bigger argument, but it had been worth the quiet time Cloud had had.

Rufus and Cid had their opposite reactions when it came to dealing with arguments. Where Cid got louder and managed to work even more curse words into his language, Rufus went icy cold and each word was as short and cut off as he could make it. He turned into every inch the man Cloud had hated at the top of Shinra Tower.

Over all, it seemed Cid had the easiest time with the massive fights that would happen. Cloud figured it was because, honestly, the man was the most balanced and well adjusted of the lot of them. Which…was horribly amusing.

It wasn’t easy, but, somehow, they would fight and break apart and always find their way back to one another. He wasn’t sure how, but it seemed to work, and Cloud had learned long ago that if something wasn’t broken, he shouldn’t fix it.
