*blinks* I have no idea where this came from. I was getting ready to lay dawn to go to sleep, and this part sprang, full blown, into my head. *shrugs* So I wrote it down. Anyone have any ideas where to poke it towards? Because I feel rather clueless where it's going, other than it will end up as a FFVII/FMA crossover.

Damnit all, how could he be so careless.

It had been a hard trip, yah, and he had been getting so tired helping Cloud, but still....

They were trapped.

Wanting to howl at his own misfortune, Zack looked back at the drop behind them. Far below was one of those places where Lifestream came to the surface, flowing brightly under the water of the river. Its brightness both soothed and terrified Zack at the same time. If they were forced off here, the dark haired man was sure neither one of them would survive.

Around them, guns aimed, were Shinra troops. Normally, Zack could have taken them. But not now. He was weak, exhausted, and he wouldn’t be able to protect Cloud if he let him go. There was no cover to protect the blond if the idiots opened fire.

“You are being offered one chance. Professor Hojo wants Specimen C back. If you are willing to return, he will agree to not harm you.”

Zack snorted. What the hell did you call the last five years if they weren’t harmful? He tightened his grip around Cloud’s waist and the grip he had on his arm, eyes darting around. Seeming to sense his scrutiny, the troopers tensed, guns fixed on the pair.

“I’m sorry, Cloud,” Zack whispered, turning his head to press a kiss against Cloud’s temple. “I hope we survive this.”

Zack let gravity take them as he fell backwards, hoping that if they did die, it would be quick and painless.

He had sent Rose on her way all ready, and the array on the floor was drawn. Finishing the last details on his skin, Ed looked down. He was whole once more, no longer metal and wires, but flesh and blood.

The price had been too high, though. Far too high.

He had lost Al.

That wasn’t what his plan had been. If anyone had gotten lost, it was going to be him, leaving behind a fully restored Al, who would be hurt, but learn to live again. He wasn’t supposed to be the one left behind, damnit all. He had gotten careless, letting Envy’s taunts distract him in a deadly fashion.

Ed had been dead once. His soul had been in the Gate, and he was alive now, but he had been dead. No heartbeat, no breathing, a big bloody hole in his chest.

Al had saved him.

Oh, he knew that Al was a hero. He had put up with Ed’s mistakes all this time, and that took a saint. Hell, sometimes even Al had lost his temper and yelled at Ed. That alone told Ed just how frustrating it must have been to deal with him over the years.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. Al was the one who was supposed to be saved.

Ed was going to fix this.

Pressing his hands against his chest, Ed closed his eyes. He was a genius alchemist, the youngest ever to get a State Alchemist certificate, able to face off against chimera and homunculi alike. He had tried to raise the dead, and had sent them back to rest again.

He was Edward Elric. He would not lose this battle.

Bright light flooded his senses.

The Lifestream is energy.

The Gate is a pathway for energy.

Everything is tied together. In ways no human or mortal can ever hope to understand, the two are related. Siblings. They coexist with and in each other, neither being stronger nor weaker.

Both touch the blankness that is between creation, the place where potential rests, undeveloped and potent.

Both react well to powerful wills.

So when two such wills entered them at the same time, the results were....

Will is responsible for creation. Creation shapes reality. Reality changes perception. Perception leads how people react. People respond by using their will.

A cycle that is easily started and stopped, if one knows exactly where to push.

This push was epic.

The sibling powers responded. Creation was tapped, potential was unlocked, and nothing was going to be the same.

Yah, yah. My Zack likes jumping off high places. I know.
