Warnings: Flailing Ichigo?
Prompt: Bleach, Renji/Rukia/Ichigo. I'd prefer threesome/poly, but using either of the component het pairings by itself is fine, too. Something with physical fighting, be it between them or against something else.

Teaching

This was the part that was always the most relaxing part of their day.

For most people, that comment would have gotten odd looks, but as Ichigo settled into an easy stance, eyes sharp as he looked at Rukia and Renji, he figured that their method of relaxation would have gotten the least amount of strange looks.

Well, at least in the human world. In Soul Society, they probably would have just gotten a shrug or two before being ignored. Or maybe catcalls, especially from Yoruichi.

Shaking the bad puns out of his head, Ichigo focused, catching Renji’s blade on his own and knocking it aside, twisting as Rukia took advantage of the distraction to make a strike of her own. Taking the momentum of the dodge, he spun and struck at Renji’s side, forcing the redheaded man back. Renji drove himself into the air, leaping high, as Rukia swung at his feet before herself dodging Ichigo’s head strike.

It had been a situation a lot like this one that had ended up with them together in the first place. Both Renji and Rukia had made dismissing comments over his blade work, which he knew was more brute strength than finesse. A guy could only take so much of that, and he had snarled at them eventually. Demanded that if they knew so much about fighting, that they should teach him.

That had, apparently, been their plan the whole time. If he offered, he couldn’t back out without damaging his pride.

Damn them for knowing him so well.

So, when summer came, and he actually had the time aside from school and his normal Hollow hunting, he found himself back in the Society, staying with Renji and practicing day after day with the pair. Afterwards, they would simply hang out. It was odd. Sometimes he and Renji would go visit the Eleventh, or he and Rukia would visit her brother while Renji tagged along. Well, attempted to go visit him. Byakuya normally would just arch an eyebrow at them, look at Rukia and nod, then walk off.

That would got a smile from her, and Renji and Ichigo would just exchange confused looks. Must have been a Kuchiki thing, because neither of them understood, and it couldn’t just be a girl thing, which was their most common explanation for things Rukia did.

Summer passed slowly, though Ichigo wasn’t sure of much of it was just the regular pattern of the days, or if the days actually -did- last longer here than in the real world. It was hard to tell, though his regular visits told him that if there was a time difference, it wasn’t a great one. Plus, he trusted Rukia to not let him lose too much track of time.

Renji, on the other hand, he trusted to teach him how to fight, and that was about it. That had led to a few arguments, including the most memorable one.

Ichigo didn’t even really remember what it was about, all he really remembered was he and Renji were yelling at each other for something, then Renji grabbing his head and kissing him. A hell of a kiss. One that had Ichigo panting for air afterwards.

“There,” the man had yelled, “shut the fuck up and -listen- to me now!”

As an argument stopper, it had been remarkably effective.

Rukia had simply said “Took you long enough.”

Ichigo, of course, had flailed.

It had taken a lot of talking and, maybe, some sitting on to get it through to Ichigo that, while it was somewhat looked down on in the human world, people of the same gender being together was fairly accepted in Soul Society. In a group where, really, the only real cause of loss of awareness was violence, children weren’t so important. Relationships were much more built on compatibility than on who could reproduce. Gender wasn’t important, and, apparently, neither was number.

That, of course, had made Ichigo flail more. This time, Rukia and Renji had let him go. And he had gone and had a long, long think about it.

Just because that was all right by this world, it didn’t mean much for him. He, after all, lived in the human world. And in the human world, things like that mattered.

Though the idea....

He showed up at practice the next day, and they had settled back into their routine. As they did, he watched how he interacted with them. He was comfortable with them, he enjoyed interacting with them. He compared, working harder at this than he ever had at schoolwork.

It was...odd, seeing things like that. And realizing that maybe, just maybe, he might have feelings for them.

Finally, one night, the three of them had been sitting together after practice, taking a break for a bit, when Rukia had looked at him.

“Renji said that, if I needed, I could share my burdens with you two. That you would help me shoulder them. Was he serious, or was he just speaking for himself?”

It was an unusually candid question from the woman, and Ichigo stomped down hard on the instant reaction to say something that would start an argument. He didn’t hesitate to look at Renji, who coughed and looked off to the side, though he was also watching Ichigo closely, from the corner of his eye.

The quiet stretched out for a few minutes, then Ichigo had snorted at her. “Idiot,” he muttered. “Like I’d go through all the hassle of rescuing you, even when you didn’t want me to, just to let you do things alone. What kind of guy do you think I am?”

“I think you are one who does a lot of stupid things without thinking them through,” she muttered back. Then she had made a startled sound and leapt away as he had swung at her.

“Well, maybe, but you’re stuck with me,” he said, to both of them as he took the force of the swing and continued around towards Renji. The other man had made a noise so similar to Rukia’s that Ichigo had to laugh.

“Come on,” he yelled. “You’re teaching me, right? Well, start teaching.”
