My 27th birthday is in 16 days. If anyone wants to write shinies, Zack/Rufus are my happy shiny, paid LJ time and icon space are also love, and you know that, really, I'm pretty easy to make happy with pretty much any type of thing that is for me, whatever it might be.

He helped people. That was simply a part of his character, an inherant facet of his being. He helped people, even if they hated him, even if they hurt him, even if they were irridemebly evil or beyond salvation he exerted his tremendous will to help them.

And he did it with a smile.

Rufus knew how to smile. It was a practiced art, the ability to grin in the face of murder, rape, torture and scientific curiousity with political backing. Rufus could smile through a fire storm, and exicution or Tseng's masterful rendition of 'Eyes on Me'.

Zack smiled and Rufus smiled. Two completely diferent smiles. Around his friends Zack's smile grew brighter, filled with more joy and less teeth. Around his enemies it became feral, a thirsty grin laughing at life and death in equal measures.

Rufus's smile was coldly calculating, no matter who saw it. It was a mask, only softening a little on the edges with true mirth or twisting wickedly at the corners with sadistic humor. He played life and death, letting it play him right back.

Zack burned away Rufus's smile with a lusty tongue and dedicatedly clever hands, and Rufus put the older man's mouth to better tasks than grinning. They had nothing in common really, except the smiles that caged them.
