I blame the FMA people for the term zoofic, though the type of fic has been around forever. But, yeah, zoofic for FF7. Meaning the people as people-looking-animals. I feel the strong urge to give them tails, though I haven't done it yet. I blame [livejournal.com profile] ciceqi for really wanting to make me write this, though the [livejournal.com profile] landels ooc chat on AIM is to blame as well.

Zack's POV, and off we go.

FF7 zoofic

He doesn’t remember much from before, really. Just his parents, yelling and roaring and the sound of things he didn’t know. Then something at the front of the den grabbing him with hard, painful hands. He had cried out, wanted saved from it because it was hurting him, and saw the blond hair of mother, but it was all stained red, and mother wasn’t moving, eyes not glowing anymore.

The one who had him passed him to someone else, and he heard his siblings crying out as well. Then there was a smelly bag and the wiggling forms of his brothers.

He didn’t remember a lot after that, just dark and moving and the whimpering of the others. They were in there a long time, and two of them stopped making sounds and got cold, and he knew that they weren’t there anymore. He whimpered louder and nuzzled at the light and dark hair of their pelts. Hadn’t been able to protect them.

Then there had been noise and light and more confusion. People all around them, things he didn’t like, smells he didn’t know, and he was so confused.

Then, after a long while, he was taken away from the others and something made him sleep.

He woke up later, in a new place, and blinked up at the one holding him, a smaller version of all the other people.

“Oh, Daddy, look, its eyes already glow.”

“Yes, dear, Zacks are born with glowing eyes. What do you want to call him?”

“Let’s call him Violet. He’s got eyes like them.”

Like he would answer to anything besides his name. Zack sneezed on the little thing holding him and wiggled. Once she set him down, he hide under the nearest thing that reminded him of the den and glared out at them. Where was the rest of his family?

Zack never did find the rest of them, and he hoped they had been given homes like his, not bad places. When he was a year old, the man-father brought home a new cub, a little Cloud. Zack had instantly adopted it, grooming him and showing him where everything was.

Those were good times.

Then something happened, and there were more people, ones who pointed something at Cloud. It made an odd sound, and Cloud staggered for a few moments before falling down, eyes sliding shut. Zack roared and kept between him and the ones with the thinks as he darted at them. They had hurt Cloud!

The little pinpricks didn’t hurt, but they made things all swooshy around him, and Zack, after slamming his shoulder into one, staggered, then everything went dark.

This time, when he woke, he found himself in a cage, Cloud nudging his shoulder. “Zack, wake up. I don’t like it here, Zack, and there’s a -Sephiroth- over there, and he’s looking at us, and I don’t want to get eaten, Zack. Be all right, Zack. Please? I don’t want you to go away.”

It was the steady pleas and the fearworry in Cloud’s voice that dragged him to awareness. Making a faint groaning sound, he staggered to his feet, leaning against Cloud, who was there to support him. Eyes glowing bright, Zack looked at the Sephiroth, who was in another cage, and watching them.

“My Cloud. You don’t get to eat him.”

A silver brow quirked and the Sephiroth made a soft, amused sound. “I do not want to eat your Cloud.” In the back of his eyes was an almost wistful look. “I used to have a Cloud, a Zack, too. But they got sick. Then people took me away.” A long moment of silence. “I think they died.” Then the green eyes were studying them again. “I don’t plan on eating you at all. But….”

There was something lost in that face, and Zack snortedsneezed. Nuzzling at Cloud’s hair for a moment, he staggered toward the divider. Reaching out, he batted a bit at long, silver hair. “Long as you don’t try to eat us, least in a bad way, we should get along fine. This is my Cloud.” Tentatively, Cloud moved over as well and gave a polite sniff before settling down. “And you can be my Seph.” A nod, ignoring the bemused looked the eyes gave him. “There. All settled. Sleepy time again.”

With a yawn, Zack stretched out next to Cloud, using his blond for a pillow and shutting his eyes. A pack. Finally had a real pack. That was good. Though he didn’t like the sleepy. Would deal with that, and then get to know the Seph more. Hadn’t met one in person before.

He heard people murmuring, and a female voice going “I think we can let them out into the park tomorrow. Looks like they’ve started to bond already.”

What was a park?

Then he was snoozing, and would have to figure out the answer later.
