Ducklings
Cloud almost choked himself trying not to laugh. This….this was priceless.
Zack had gone to sleep. In the petting zoo of all places. At the moment, he was curled up next to the pond, limp and cute under the tree. It only got better when it became apparent that the boy wasn’t alone in his nap.
About half a dozen ducklings where nestled in the spiky dark hair, tiny spots of fluffy yellow, brown, and grey sleeping in Zack’s hair.
Nor was Cloud the only one who had seen the cute value. Several of the moms who were out with their kids were taking pictures, and Cloud grinned and pulled his own camera.
Time for future blackmail.

Cloud Watching
Lazily, Zack watched the clouds drift across the sky. He didn’t have any plans, any place to be. Just time to lay back and think.
Usually boredom plus free time plus Zack equaled bad times for everyone else.
Not always, though. Sometimes it just sent Zack into a thoughtful mood.
He wondered about the future for once. Didn’t really know how much of one he had, not with what he did and how he did it. One day he knew he was going to go too far and that would be it.
But what till then? He couldn’t really imagine losing any of the others first. Brain just couldn’t quite wrap around it. Spike was immortal, the twins were far more hardy than he would ever be, and Seph had a hell of a lot more self preservation. Still, Zack pondered.
He does have a few plans. He wants kids some day, if he could find someone who wanted to have them with him. Much as he loved the others, none of them were capable of that. More sex with the others was -always- on his list of things for the future. Keeping his people safe was on the list as well. And, of course, have as much fun as he could.
Zack didn’t have a clue on what was ahead for him in life, but he knew he’d enjoy it while he could.

Cloud sighed and looked at his adopted child. “And what do I always say about that phrase?”
Rolling his eyes, Zack recited. “’Want fair, find a thing with rules. Life doesn’t have them.’ Yeah, yeah, I know. But it isn’t fair. They just covered it all up and pretend it didn’t happen. But it -did-!”
Cloud reached out and ruffled Zack’s hair. At sixteen, the boy was as tall as him, but that had yet to stop Cloud from doing things like this. “I know.”
“They just…plowed it down and paved it over. Like it wasn’t important at all. That was a whole town that got destroyed.”
A soft sigh. “Zack, if you want things to change, you have to make them change. Talk rarely helps in situations like this.”
Violet eyes narrowed and Zack’s jaw set. “Then I will.”
Another hair ruffle. Just what Cloud had expected. “I’ll help where I can.” And that was all that really needed to be said.
