These were hard words to write for. Hope they came out okay. These were words that [livejournal.com profile] tir_synni tossed out in a comment. So I wrote them. Hope you enjoy.

Tete-a-tete

“Za~ck…..”

“Hey, Spike. It’s okay.” A rare lucid period. Whatever they were doing to Cloud, it was damaging his hold on reality, and it was killing Zack to watch as the blond fell apart piece by piece.

“They’re hurting me.”

“I know, babe, but just give me a few more days…..”

“Promise won’t let them take me back?”

Vivid -green- eyes, pupils all shaped wrong. Stretched out, almost. What the hell were they -doing- to him?

“Don’t let them. It hurts.”

“I won’t let them, Spike. Will do anything I have to. Anything.”

“Anything.” A strange…finality to the way he said it.

The next day, they were placed in the Mako tubes. This time, however, they weren’t let back out. The scientists had, of course, listened in.

When Zack got them out, Cloud’s eyes were a completely different shade of green, and empty of everything.

Zack remembered the promise though, and prayed he wouldn’t have to follow through.

Explicate

Tifa has a theory. One she tries to explain one day to Aeris in a dream.

“He doesn’t love me because he loves someone else.”

Aeris smiles softly. “I don’t think that’s the case.”

But what Aeris can’t explain to Tifa is that Cloud doesn’t love because that part of him is gone, buried all over the world. A town that burned to the ground, a Mako reactor, a crater to the north, and a cliff that overlooks Midgar. Torn to shreds by someone who wore another’s face and by someone who gave up everything to keep him safe.

Tifa knows, though.

“You can’t win against the dead.”

Compunction

This was wrong. This was so very, very wrong.

He killed Sephiroth anyway, knowing he condemned someone, a child, who was just as lost as he used to be, to death.

Evanescent

They watch for his smiles, fleeting, sad things. Zack argues that they should do something; Aeris just gives her own smile and says they need to bid their time.

He’ll come back to them again. He is human, no matter how many times he had escaped death. Once day, he will come, and he will stay.

Numinous

They say the church is touched by the gods, who have helped make it scared and full of cleaning waters.

They say that, one day, in the middle of the great sickness, a man by the name of Cloud came from the waters and brought healing with him.

People argue over if he was the one who brought it, or if he was just a messenger for those who had made it.

He was a man whose eyes glowed with power, said the legends, who was more than human. A slayer of a god and one who was almost a god himself.

They say he walked back into the waters one day and vanished.

Nobody knows the truth, but nobody disturbs the church unless they have need. Those who go for greedy or pointless purposes swear they see eyes that look on them. Eyes of greens and violets and of blues.

Tread lightly in the church, for it has the gods own luck and protectors that are not human.
