qc_heartless, cause this is how I bribe people. Hopefully it doesn't suck. Random Rufus and Vincent interaction. Pre-slashy, if you look at it just right.
“I want you to teach.”
That was how it all started. Strangely enough, Vincent had been expecting this. Or something like it. Turks aren’t allowed to retire. They live in service to Shinra until they die. Active duty or teaching.
“I’m no longer a Turk.”
The person who had come to him was a bit of a surprise. He had expected Tseng, or even Reno. Tseng was the current leader, Reno was the more talkative of the ones who pestered him on a regular basis. He hadn’t expected Rufus Shinra himself.
“You’re a Turk until you die.”
Rufus and Reeve had worked out some type of deal to allow them joint control over the company, and there had been a bit of an uneasy shifting when a Shinra once again stood at the top of what was still the most powerful company in the world.
“I have died.”
But whatever the pair had come up with worked. Checks and balances. Rufus versus Reeve, Turks versus Avalanche. And Reeve had hired on those who would work for him. Tifa, Barret, and Vincent all had agreed to do it at least part-time. Cloud on occasion.
“You look remarkably healthy for one of the dead.”
It had been interesting at first to watch the interactions. AVALANCHE versus Turk. The two groups had hissed and spit at each other in their own way, then bonded in picking on the people who were technically their bosses.
“What do you want, Shinra?”
Strangely enough, the arrangement seemed to work. Turk and their former prey got along in a rather violent manner, and Rufus and Reeve had a tendancy to watch and just shake their heads. Vincent had a tendency to watch as well.
“I want you to teach.”
For some reason, Vincent wasn’t as surprised as he could have been when Rufus approached. The man had been right in one regard. Vincent had been a Turk, and that meant a certain amount of observation skills.
“Is that all?”
Vincent knew how to watch, and he was watching when Rufus started to watch him. And now he has a sliver of an idea of why. Still, he watched Rufus, and had seen more than just cold, cynical man that most other people see.
“For now…yes.”
One who is honest, at least. He doesn’t hide that he wants more from Vincent than just teaching, and Vincent just nods. Honest men, even ones as cruel and cold as Rufus can be, he can deal with.
“…fine.”
