Ed found himself caught.
The black hands pulled at him.
But four thin strings wound their way around him, keeping him from being drawn into the darkness of the Gate.
They looked like fragile things, those threads colored like his lovers eyes. But they kept him from the void.
Child-like voices called. They teased Ed with the full Truth. He knew that they told no lies. That if he followed them, he would finally understand everything that had happened.
Behind him, he could hear Roy, Riza, Al, and Masuta call him. Their voices made his heart twist, and he ached to be with them.
Ahead of him, knowledge and loved ones who had passed this way before.
Behind him, love and people who would not come this way for a long time.
His eyes slid shut. As they closed, Ed felt something give.
