Hmm. This is another thing that I'm asking to be beta'd. It's HoS, but will be it's own arc. Look it over and let me know what you think.

It had been a long, long day.

Eight hours since Al had called, fear and anger in his voice. Since he had said the military had tried to take Ed.

Seven hours since Roy, Riza, and Masuta had taken what they could on such short notice and hit the train station.

Six hours since splitting up and finding different trains that would eventually bring them to their lovers.

Five hours since they met back up. Masuta had made the comment on how happy he was that trains were very, very common. And that they had a reliable time schedule.

Five hours of constantly changing trains and clothes. Al had said that the military was after them. Roy and Riza knew just what it was capable of, and worked on fouling up the system.

Eight hours of worry and frustration.

All of that, and Roy almost ended up tripping over Ed and Al at the station Al had said they were going to meet at. Well, at least tripping over the white cane that Ed carried.

Both boys had dark hair, and their clothing was of a slightly higher class than normal. Ed’s hair was shorter than it had been, and hung around his face, obscuring the dark glasses that covered his eyes. Al’s was slightly longer, and it was obvious that they had taken part of Ed’s hair and fused it to Al’s. Disguise by alchemy. Roy almost laughed.

Without a word, Roy sat down next to the boys. Riza and Masuta took the bench behind them, leaving the five back to back and able to watch all the exits. Ed hunched in on himself, his hair still covering his face.

“I want to know what happened, but there will be plenty of time later. How are you?”

At Roy’s softly spoken question, Al sighed. “I’m fine. But….” He gave Ed a piercing look. Roy eyed the older of the two brothers.

“Ed?”

“I’ve been better.”

“Niisan.”

Al’s voice was full of exasperation and more than a little upset. Whatever had happened had hit both of them hard. Roy could feel Riza and Masuta take looks back before returning to their watch.
“Ed?” Roy tried again.

Ed peered over the top of his glasses at Roy. When he did, Roy understood why the Elrics had gone with the dark shades and the cane.

Ed’s eyes were still mostly gold. But around the cat-slit pupils was a definite line of purple, and the gold was edged on the outside with a crimson streak that reminded Roy of unpleasant things.

“Let’s just say that the military is still far too interested in the victims of human transmutation,” Ed said softly.

Roy's response was short and to the point. "Fuck."
