Band AU. For Croix. *snugs the Cloud*

"You know, you are never, ever going to make this up to me, right?"

Genesis scowled at Sephiroth. "The only reason I asked you is because you have to have groups of at least three."

"And the fact I can play."

A disdainful sniff. "That, and you've been practicing with Angeal as well, so I know you aren't totally inept when it comes to doing the moves."

Angeal was pretending hard that he didn't know either of the pair. It didn't work, but at least he was getting a few sympathetic looks.

Behind him, Sephiroth and Genesis both continued their dry sarcasm at each other. If it wasn't for the fact he knew they were friends, Angeal would have made sure to sit so he could watch for any mis-thrown weapons. As it was, he felt relatively safe.

So instead he watched the rest of the crowd. There were a lot of people, and quite a few of the ones who had gone up so far hadn't sounded too bad. They were the ones Angeal watched. He hadn't really wanted to do this, but Genesis had been so interested that he had allowed himself to be brought along. And if they were going to do this, Angeal wanted to win. A competitive streak he didn't indulge in often had worked itself up into action.

"Genesis, if you two get us kicked out of here before we have a chance to do this, I will hurt you if there is whining at me." And his oldest friend knew Angeal would thump him.

A hand rested on his shoulder. "Of course I wouldn't get us kicked out. We need to show them just how talented we are."

"Not to mention the need to show some of these children what real ability is like." Dry, dry tone from Sephiroth. So, he had heard the "old man" comments as well. That would make things interesting. Since they were all in their early twenties, that was a bit harsh to call them old.

Seems Angeal wasn't the only one who had gotten his urge to win woken up.

"They're the ones we need to impress," he said, nodding towards a smaller group, who were watching each act with rapt attention. They were in a different area from the official judges, but given the looks the two groups were exchanging, they were the ones who were making the decisions.

On either side of him, Sephiroth and Genesis studied the ones he had pointed out. They had a routine set up. Several in fact. Genesis had been...persistent. Now all that mattered was figuring out which acts caught the real judges eyes the most, and work from there.

It was a good thing they were good at working together and adapting to things.

Angeal had a feeling they would need it.
