I think I might have ages figured out. Should have done this before. If I had, maybe I wouldn't have to rewrite half my first story for 25_prompts cause I messed up ages.

Time of Nibelheim

Nidara: 32
Cloud: 16
Minato: 20
Kakashi: 14
Naruto: Newborn

It's most irritating to not have set ages for people, but given Kakashi is most often listed as 26 when manga starts, that puts him at 14 when Kyuubi hits.

Nibelhiem happens twelve days before Kyuubi. And news doesn't travel that fast between the Elemental Countries and Shinra held territory.

Lots and lots of blond.

In this verse, yeah, Cloud's mom was a teenage mom. In my Gracious verse, she was early twenties when she had him, but in this one, given where she grew up, and the fact that I've been eyeing the way people seem to not breed in FFVII, I decided to go with the young mom route.

What kind of theories? *always enjoys talking theories*

On serious theories, well, she was definitely young, kinda poor (maybe surviving off government money after losing her husband in the war?) and I'd say was actually a normal country woman. I don't think the people of Nibelheim had any great animosity toward her (or even Cloud; some people were nice to him in the flashback in a way that had nothing to do with Zack). Still, I believe she was quite the warrior, as in one who fights against the daily hardships with all the optimism one can gather when in a tight finacial situation. The whole "Everyone in Nibelheim was a heartless bastard who bullied poor little Cloud" fandom idea is probably flanderization from the one time we saw in which they really were (a quite extreme situation, at that).

As for pulled-out-of-ass, well... I have several. Some of them are:

- She came from Midgard, and was selected to be the Prez's "love" affair as a teen. She managed to remain his favorite for quite a while; eventually she got to know the official wife, and they kind of became friends and started trading cards, building some defenses for when the time came to be discarded. Eventually the Prez decided to sic the Turks on her, but she lived, changed her name and went to Nibelheim. Rufus vaguely remembers her, and the Prez freaks out when he sees Cloud, since they're so alike. (The story is half written somewhere in my notebook.)

- She was a teen idol, and threw everything up to the air to raise Cloud. It came from the mental image of Cloud surrounded by old fans of her who recognize him. He'd be bummed for crushing his mom's career for a while, till he found out she hated it all anyway and was glad to get out of the limelight.

- She was from a rich family, but ran away with her brother and they had Cloud! But in Nibelheim everyone thinks they were cousins. If it was a magical family, then Cloud has some uber pure blood or something and can pilot the magical giant robot with lasers. It's great if you want to do drama and crack side by side.
