It's full of crack. I have a scene, just a snippet, and I'm not sure what to do with it. At all.



"No offense, but you can both go fuck yourselves."

Not too uncommon a phrase in the mess hall. Especially when the lines got really rough. But -who- was yelling it got more stares than anything.

Zack Fair was even more spiky haired than normal, eyes glowing faintly green with agitation. The focus of his anger was what got the rest of the stares.

Cloud Strife, who was Zack's pet cadet, and General Sephiroth, who was, well, -General Sephiroth-, both were staring at the dark haired man with looks of total confusion.

There was a sound from Zack that probably should have been impossible for anyone to make, particularly a guy who was as cheerful as him, but he still made it. Then he turned and stalked off, people scattering from his path. Nobody knew what had happened, and it didn't seem as if the two recipients of the man's yelling were any more informed, but nobody wanted to be in the way of a pissy First Class SOLDIER. People got dead doing that kind of stuff.

The fact that Sephiroth had the most confused look on his face as he blinked slowly after Zack should have been funny, but far too many people were feeling highly nervous.

A pissed off Zack was not something anyone wanted roaming loose.

And it seemed that what had set him off this time were the ones who normally calmed him down.

This didn't bode well for -anyone-.





As for my personal opinion, pissed off Zack is hot, and should see the light of day more. *purrs* Mmmm, pissy Zack. Yummy.

And I honestly don't know why Zack is so very, very not happy. Maybe he's just hit his "I can't deal with this anymore" level of social cluelessness. I do still have that Zack who got to be a unknowing test subject for some drugs that had a rather...interesting effect. Violent hallucinations type of effects. Maybe something like that.

And yeah, pissed Zack is so much yum. But definitely not at me.

Maybe I should write more of those snippets where Zack gets his butt ordered away from Sephiroth and Cloud till he can treat them like they are normal. *ponders* Though this is fun as well.

Hmmm...

I have a suggestion: maybe they've each made comments about the wisdom or otherwise of Zack spending time with Aerith (after all, she *is* on the run from Shinra, she *is* at the top of the list of "test subjects Hojo would like to play with some more", and she *isn't* the sort of person anyone who liked their job would want to be associating with as a result of the previous two). The comments might have been made separately, but seeing the both of them in the same place (coincidence, but Zack's not thinking too clearly at present) makes him think they've both been conspiring against him, and he blows up. This probably works better in my head, simply because I tend to have as a piece of personal fanon that mako treatments cause moodiness, broodiness, depression and potentiate any psychological instabilities the recipient already has into full-blown conditions. Would work even better if Zack has just received his mako booster.

So, just throwing that one into the ring - yours to use or not, depending on your preference.

Angry!Zack is Trouble(tm). Smexy as hell, but serious trouble.

As for possible causes, how about:
(1) given Zack's protective impulses, Seph and Cloud are trying to protect HIM and endangering (or have endangered) themselves in the process;
(2) the ever-popular involuntary mind- or mood-alteration from secret experimental drugs, poison, etc.
(3) a synergistic combination of (1) and (2), given that I can see it taking quite a lot to make Zack blow up like that at his dearest friends.

It would be even more interesting/funny if for once, Hojo and/or Shinra are totally innocent of screwing with Zack, and some third party is responsible for personal or business revenge, greed, or whatnot. ^_-

It would be rather interesting (or hilarious) to see Shinra Corp and/or Hojo actually trying to be genuinely helpful in figuring out and solving the problem with Zack for once. Not for Zack's sake, of course, but they would have considerabe vested interested in finding out what can screw around with the mental ability of their SOLDIERs. ^_^

I vote they said something uncomplimentary about his ability to keep himself out of trouble one too many times, coupled with stress and the very real threat of Turks on Aeris's tail, and *she* doesn't want him involved in it.

My only issue is that I'm not sure if Cloud or Zack know anything about her being on the run from Shin-Ra. Or even if Sephiroth does. Just because they were in the labs at the same times doesn't mean they actually knew each other. Hojo has a lot of labs, after all.

Though I do have a fun time with the mako issue. *points at Gracious* And grumpy, pissy Zack is fun.

I'm poking at it to figure out if it's tied to the little Orders set of drabbles. If it is, I know -exactly- what caused this. Just got to work it in.

So need to make that a real story.

I might use it. I do so love playing with ideas. They make such tasty crack in my brain when I do.

That's an interesting idea. I really do need to write up the idea where Hojo is testing a potential "sedative" on Zack, for possible use on Sephiroth, only it makes Zack react more like he's on PCP or LSD, and that would be a bad thing for Seph to be exposed to. And then they make Seph come deal with Zack, as Zack kept breaking people who were trying to actually sedate him. *grins*

But the idea of them trying to fix Zack because they don't like the idea of someone breaking their toys....

And given Zack's ties to not only Sephiroth, but his role in the Wutai War, and the fact he's probably a hell of a lot more accessible than Sephiroth, that makes Zack a nice target. And a lot more likely to be exposed. Plus, if they lucked out, it might be possible to contaminate Sephiroth as well, depending on the drug/contagion.

Again, my main issue is if they even know about Aeris's issue with Shin-Ra, though I do like the idea of him being grumpy that they are trying to protect him, even when he does the same thing to them.

Grumpy Zack is just ever so much fun.
