As he waited for the others to arrive, Sephiroth thought about his situation.
He was Jenova's first born. Her child, created by science and magic to be a proper heir for her. The fact that it was done by those he would wipe out in vengeance for her was just an amusing irony. When it had been thought he had died by them, he knew that they had attempted to recreate him. Imperfect ones, true, but the attempts had been useful. The body he wore now, the puppet who had helped him gain the Black Materia, and who would serve other purposes as well....
They were useful, but nothing he had not expected to come from Hojo.
This, though, was not what he had expected at all.
The cat glared at him, and Sephiroth glared back. He would not be pushed around by some four legged thing that had the gall to order him around the moment they had met.
It did not matter that he had.
Now it was demanding food. Something about traveling through much icky cold to find the Shiny Calling One.
Sephiroth wasn't sure if he was offended or not over such a nickname. The creature was odd, a mix of him and, he could just barely feel it, his blond puppet.
He was the first born of Jenova, and after Reunion, he would be the last.
Now, though, he had a cat.
Who demanded food again.
"What are you doing here?" he asked finally, still trying to figure out how it had been made. The creature responded by dumping images of the lab, of what it called Stupid Human, and the urge to follow. The urge to smirk at Hojo being called a stupid human by a feline tugged at Sephiroth, but he ignored it for now, focusing on what else the cat showed him.
Zack was alive.
Interesting.
"I believe I will keep you for now," he said finally, petting the animal's head lightly. "You've proved useful."
The cat simply gave him a look of offended dignity, and demanded food once again.
Stubborn animal.

Cats were well known for their grace, their ability to appear in the most unexpected of places, and their vast amounts of patience when hunting.
However, he was not patient. And he was bored.
The Shiny Calling One had been good enough to feed him, finally, but he was still only partially trained. Silly Shiny Calling One kept being distracted by other things, and he was most displeased by that. The human was there to pay attention to him when -he- wanted it, not when the Shiny Calling One pulled his attention away from things far away.
More and more black ones appeared each day, dying as they did. Shiny Calling One's voice grew louder with each one, pulling them in faster and faster, and he wondered how many there were.
One, though, he could feel was different. An almost pull like Shiny Calling One had, and he wondered when that one would get there. He was bored and wanted a new human to pay attention to him.
Things were going so slow, and he washed his tail, then went and found the Shiny Calling One, climbing up his coat, ignoring the protests to stop.
If the Shiny Calling One wasn't going to pay attention to him on his own, then he would simply make the human do it.
Time to really train Shiny Calling One.

Cloud stared.
He was eye to eye with a cat. A fluffy, blue eyed cat.
The -cat-.
The one who he could -hear- in his head.
"Fuck," he muttered, glad the others were still coming down the slope behind him, not quite close enough to hear. They thought he was cracked enough. "What the hell do you want?"
It glared at him more. "No," he growled faintly, "I'm not going to stop here. Sephiroth has done too much to let him go now."
The cat yowled at him, raising a paw and displaying surprising large claws, and he shook his head.
"I don't care if you do threaten to claw my eyes out. I'm not stopping. None of us are." He snapped his hand out and grabbed the animal's scruff. When Yuffie got close enough, he dumped the animal in her arms.
"Hold that," he muttered, continuing on.
Didn't stop the cat, and he was almost happy when the monsters attacked right before they headed into the green glow that was the center of the planet.
Finally made the thing stop talking in his head.

Everything...stopped.
For a moment, it was as if he had gone blind, deaf, and the world itself vanished.
For a long, long moment, there was nothing.
The Shiny Calling One had gone quiet.
Blond Scratching Post had gone silent and still, the other green voices did the same, and for the first time in his life, he knew quiet.
He didn't like it.
The moment dragged out, as if everything was holding its breath to see if the Shiny Calling One would speak again, call everyone back to him once again.
No whisper curled into his brain, calling him forward.
Then the world began to shake, and he leapt and landed on Blond Scratching Post's shoulder, yowling.
The moment he landed, he could hear the calming sound of the human in his head, and he wondered if the other was as much in shock as him over the sudden quiet.
Latching on, he refused to let go, even as the giant thing crashed in from the sky, and green filled the world to deal with it.
Shiny Calling One was gone, his voice stopping in their heads, but he wasn't going to lose the other one, even if that one had made the Shiny Calling One go silent.
He wasn't going to stop listening, though now he had to train another human.
