*looks at the latest mess to sweep LJ*

Well, I've got my JF and GJ accounts already, both under the same journal name as this. Feel free to friend them if you are on either section, and give me a poke so I can do the same.

*knows way too many people preparing to move after one too many hunts*

I wonder how that permanent journal sale will go now?

What would LJ do if they drove away the fandom people? And the RPers? Just as idle discussion.

Well, here I am. Not the only one on my flist who's moved, and so hello others who are here.

I'm also got my accounts set up at GJ and JF. Same as this and my LJ user name. icedark_elf for them both. Drop me a line and say hi.

Well, just because now I'm all twitchy over LJ, I've got the other accounts up and going.

If you are on any of the following server, drop a line so I can friend you again. I'm thinking about putting fic up either on IJ or JF. JFs servers are not the most robust, but at last the fic won't be randomly deleted. Though I do need to resave a lot of it onto my hard drive.

Note: I'm not deleting this journal. However, when the paid time goes, I'm not renewing. And most of my fic will probably be posted elsewhere, and just linked here.

Been reading the news comments on their Journal. Not that they've actually given us a statement, we've just hijacked the last thread.

People are pissed. It's making the news, and, amazingly, it seems to be in fandoms favor for the moment.

People are entertaining themselves. Nothing like seeing PotC songs in comments.

And the last post in the news comm hit its limit, and on people have gone to the next one in line.

Best comment compares fandom to Cartman. We may not look like much, but piss of us and we feed you your parents.

Yo, ho, all together, hoist the colors high. *hums, cause likes that song*

Account deletion (Strikethrough '07)
In May 2007, LiveJournal deleted approximately 500 accounts and communities, causing what news.com referred to as a "revolt" from "thousands of LiveJournal customers"http://news.com.com/Mass+deletion+sparks+LiveJournal+revolt/2100-1025_3-6187619.html, after "Warriors For Innocence"http://www.warriorsforinnocence.org/2007/04/livejournal-pedophile-sympathizers.html, an unaffiliated vigilante group, complained to LJAbuse. Warriors for Innocence targeted communities based on their lists of interests in order to remove pedophiles and child molesters who they claimed had journals.http://www.warriorsforinnocence.org/2007/05/livejournal-six-apart-delete-hundreds.html LiveJournal immediately removed these communities. According to Six Apart chairman and chief executive Barak Berkowitz, ""We did a review of our policies related to how we review those sites, those journals, and came up with the fact that we actually did have a number of journals up that we didn't think met our policies and didn't think they were appropriate to have up".

Most of the backlash has been from fan fiction writers whose communities and personal journals have been deleted, seemingly only because they list interests such as "incest" or "non-con" (short for non-consensual). Although these communities do not encourage illegal behavior, there was no further investigation into the content of these journals.http://femmequixotic.livejournal.com/292480.html Other criticisms include the fact that proper law enforcement was not contacted, even in the case of actual pedophiliac journals, and that communities that are entirely unrelated to anything but the discussion, sometimes therapeutic and other times literary (as in the case of a deleted community for discussion of the novel Lolita), of rape or child molestation.

When contacted by members by telephone, PR official Jane was "helpful, but evasive." After initial anger died down, an extreme wave of comments came in reference to the fact that Livejournal had neglected to post an official comment concerning the proceedings after telling members that one would be forth coming. Sixteen, almost seventeen hours have passed (as of 9:44 Central US Time) without any official word from Livejournal representatives. Many comments are either berating the Livejournal staff, demanding explanations, or quoting the song "Hoist the Colours" from the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End soundtrack, which is considered by many to be "Strikethrough '07"'s (as the event has been labeled, because deleted accounts are represented with a strikethrough upon deletion) unofficial theme song due to the relevance of the lyrics to their situation. Other "anthems" have been posted, including "La Vie Boheme" from the musical RENT, but this remains the most prevalent.

A protest community, [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts, currently has over 15,100 members (as of 10:06 pm Central US Time). The community was created as a place for any Livejournal users who were involved with fandom (or otherwise) to join and show their distress. The site was created on the first day of Strikethrough '07, and has been growing at a rapid and steady rate for the past few hours.

Hoist the Colors

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts is over 17 twenty -thousand- members now.

Fandoms from all over are uniting, even people who would have chewed each others eyes out yesterday. It's very odd, as I never, ever thought I'd see the day where fandom would group together as a whole.

We're a vicious bunch when you poke us.

Mmm, bet Hell is frosty right now.
