The first films were of a tiny little boy who was just toddling along. It was obviously shot by something like a phone or camera, because the quality wasn't the greatest, but Hollander could still make out the the bright blue eyes that looked up at the viewfinder. There was lack of sound as well, which was a bit frustrating, but he was sure that the next one sent would.

It was obvious that the child was no great expert at walking yet, making grabs at most of the stationary items he walked by. But those eyes were full of intelligence, he could see that already, and there was skill there, just a lack of practice. Still, the boy was just a baby still. Though he was growing fast.

The next films had sound, a better camera having been sent in response to the first little clips. This time, he heard her voice, as she called out.

"Angeal. Say hi to the camera."

The boy, a little older now, still young, smiled sweetly up at the camera. "Hi," he said, voice soft and high. Hollander's heart tightened a bit as Gillian prompted the boy to go "Hi, Daddy."

Not that Angeal knew that the man he thought was his daddy really wasn't. It had frustrated Hollander to hear that Gillian had married so quickly after leaving Midgar. She hadn't even given him a chance to apologize for the tests, for his reaction to the idea of her being pregnant. It wasn't as if he had intended to make their child a part of this project, but since there was no helping the matter, he had simply planned on using what he had been given. Angeal was going to be born with the Jenova cells in his body. Even better than the other host child, as Angeal would be getting them even from conception.

The idea of tests and additional treatments had gotten him slapped and Gillian going to Gast. The head scientist of Shin-Ra had put Hollander to other tests for a bit, taking over the project for the time being. It was from Gast that he had learned that Gillian had left, going to Banora where the parents of the original specimen lived. And it was from Hojo that he had learned that Gillian had married.

Bastard.

A year later, there were more films, this time of a birthday party. Hollander had sneered at the image of the man the woman he wanted had married, but more of his attention was aught on Angeal. The boy, now two, was happy and talking to a tiny little boy with red-brown hair. That one, he knew, as he did regular checkups on Genesis. He wasn't allowed near Angeal. Gast had assigned another assistant to work with Hollander. He did any tests that were required, under Hollander's direction.

Hojo was doing his own version of the project, given the early test results on Genesis and Angeal. They were not what was expected, and the bastard had made his move then. His wife was newly pregnant, just a few months along, and they had offered their child as another attempt at the project.

Angeal had been doing much better results, so Gast had them directly using the Jenova cells provided on the fetus, not on a secondary party, then transferred over to the child. Though the only reason that they had done so with Genesis was of the uncertainty of a unborn child's body to accept Jenova.

That had been easily proven by Angeal just how well it could be done. His results were closer to projected estimations, and there were...quirks in Genesis's cells that might result in issues later on.

Watching the chubby cheek boy playing with the other boy, Hollander had a brief pang of what might have been. If he was there instead of that impostor, what would his child be like? Angeal was obviously very bright, and already quick and agile, even with the baby fat he carried. If he was this way with the hands off methods Hollander was being forced to use, what would he be like with his father in his life?

Over the years, there were more films, because Gillian was too soft hearted to completely cut Hollander out of his son's life. So he watched, in the quiet of his own home, as Angeal grew up. He got taller, though he stubbornly held onto the weight, eyes growing bright and brighter as the years passed and he was given shots and treatments. More height, his voice changing as he laughed with his friend. Genesis, who Hollander felt a possessive pride in, was in many of the films as well.

The pair was inseparable, and he couldn't help laughing as Angeal began to bulk up. The fat melted into muscle, which pleased Hollander, the features became more definite. The Jenova cells were excellent at bringing out all potential. Something about them seemed to bring out the best in the genetic code, even on the adults they were starting to run tests on. Hojo's project was a pretty child, looking a great deal like his mother, though his coloring was much more like Jenova. Those green cat eyes told Hollander that Hojo had been playing with more than just Jenova cells.

But it was good to see that the projects he had helped create get along. Children could be contrary, and Genesis was as stubborn as any child he had ever met.

Then came the film that had a small note attached to it.

"They are coming to Midgar to join SOLDIER."

He had been expecting that, and as he watched this last home video, Hollander just smiled.
