Five Ficlets
I said that I would give
takefuji a ficlet in exchange for the wallpapers she made. She asked for five, and so I wrote her five. *grins* I hope you enjoy them.
Five Zack and Cloud ficlet
Rain
One of the first things he knew after the green was wet. He remembered the feel of legs under his head and violet eyes above him. And clouds, dark and grey over all that.
“It’s raining, Spike. So we’re going to get just a little wet.”
He wondered why the rain tasted of salt.
Cold
The first time he had stood guard duty during the Midgar winter, he hadn’t gotten what all the fuss was about. It really wasn’t that bad. Not with all the pollution and the places under the Plate keeping everything warm and that heat trapped.
Then Zack, who was a SOLDIER and who shouldn’t have even been slightly chilled, had dragged him back to his quarters and they had hung out, drinking hot drinks and leaning against each other to “warm up”.
Cloud learned to pretend that it was cold after that.
Mundane
What was it like to be mundane? To be like everyone else? He had known once. Know that it wasn’t always his eyes that had glowed, that he hadn’t been the one to carry this sword. But he didn’t remember. Not anymore. Not really. All he remembered was the glow fading away and the smell of blood.
He would rather be mundane.
Candy
“Hey, try this?”
“What is it?”
“Come on, just open your mouth.”
“Those words fill me with terror.”
“Trust me?”
A pause. Then.
“That tastes good….”
“All the best candies do. And that was my last one, so….”
A kiss.
Diminutive
It was hard to believe that he wasn’t that much shorter than Zack. Maybe a handspan, but not much. He always felt so diminutive next to the man, but usually only when Zack did something like absently pick someone up off the ground and not even seem to realize it, or ran through a practice that would have left Cloud dying and gasping for air.
The best time to be smaller than Zack was when the man would sling his arm over Cloud’s shoulders and drag him along on some new insane plan. Those didn’t always turn out so good, but they were fun, because Zack treated him like an equal.
And Cloud knew that, one day, they would be.
