Priest
It seemed that, in order to make sure the brothers kept their side of the bargain, the man was going with them. So they made a stop before leaving town.
At the edge of the town, there was a house, and the house was surrounded by flowers.
Tifa shut her eyes, feeling the power here, and soaking in the feel of truly healthy earth. So rare now a days, where people continued to spread filth into everything.
In the flowers that grew in front of the house was a girl.
Barret walked up to her, holding Marlene on his hip.
Inside of his brother, the middle child smiled.
He knew this woman, if not this place.
The girl took Marlene into the home, then came back out with sturdy shoes and a staff.
"I'm coming with you," she said, staring right into the brothers eyes, the lingering traces of the language of Midgar on her words.
The others protesting, and the middle child could feel his brother wanting to do the same, but he just smiled.
"Well then, lets get going," were his words.
It was good to meet Aeris in the real world, finally.
Shapeshifter
When they came to Midgar finally, they crept into the city without announcing themselves. Their step-mother could be anywhere, and they did not want her to track their efforts to regain the eldest brother.
The first place they went to was the labs of the alchemist mage Hojo. It was him the fairies said was connected to the witch, and it was him the brothers insisted on speaking too first.
Only they found him gone.
Fled, or called away. His home was deserted.
Mostly.
In one room, chained with cold iron, and left there, was a creature who spoke human words.
On its shoulder was a brand.
His name was Red XIII, he told them. Once, before Hojo had gotten a hold of him, he was the heir to a city throne in another country.
Now, due to the brand, he was trapped in one shape, never again to take a more human form. His people would still accept him, but it would be dangerous to travel alone in the world between here and there.
He was in their debt, however, for freeing him, and he would follow them as needed.
After some words, the group agreed that they would find a way to get him home, and welcomed his assistance.
And so they gained a fey-born into their group.
Next came the meeting with their cousin.
Royalty
In the end, it was only the name of the brothers that let them in, for even royalty knew when their cousin had had god-touched children. And to have the youngest one here alone, or so it seemed, had drawn the attention of the powers.
The youngest brother hated this, he had never been fond of crowds, and court was nothing if not a crowd, but the middle was in his element. He presented the dark man's case of injustice out, speaking on how one of the advisors had burned the place to settle one of her own petty grievances.
Their cousin, the prince, was always willing to cause some sort of upset to his father's advisors, as the prince liked nor trusted any of them, and agreed to settle matters.
For a price.
He had an item he needed to complete a project. What that project was, he did not say, but the item was far away, and in a dangerous location. He was an only child, and could not and would not risk himself in that manner, for that would leave no clear heir to the throne, and the fights that would come if he died would be disastrous.
So, in exchange for righting the wrong done to the dark one's home, the group would need to collect the gem he desired.
The deal was bargained, and struck.
And the party, steadily finding themselves growing larger, departed the city to collect the stone.
Underwater
The journey to where the gemstone was supposed to be found was a difficult one. There were many creatures, many hunters there. Bandits and the like littered the area, and every day seemed to bring a new battle, some more dangerous than others.
They almost lost someone several times, but the priestess had a gift for healing, and her hands seemed to close even the most deadly of strikes, either alone, or with the aid of magical artifacts.
When they came to the place where the item was said to be, they discovered the newest problem in their hunt.
The resting place of the item was below the water.
Here, they would have been stalled if not for the appearance of one small thief.
Water
She had been following them for a bit, drawn the the amount of magical items they had on them. Her kind fed on things of that nature, and she was constantly following them in hopes of collecting more.
As they were distracted by trying to solve the puzzle that would let get past the water to the prize, she crept close, trying take a few items that they probably wouldn't -mind- her having....
Only to find her wrist grabbed the the pale haired one, who looked at her from odd colored eyes. She could have sworn she saw something laughing in those eyes, even if the man's expression was grim.
"What are you doing?" he asked, even though it was clear just what she had been doing. At least he was the only one who had caught it. She thought.
Besides, something about him felt...odd, and she was nothing if not curious, so she smiled at him and held up an item she held.
"I have magic here that lets you breathe underwater."
She had been planning on using it after she had taken their thing so that she could escape where they could not follow. But something about this group intrigued her.
And she was so easily bored somedays.
Besides, they scented of more magic than she thought they ever could when she was this close to them, and she wanted all of it.
What better place to steal their things than from inside the group, right?
